The only man with a view of the whole pitch, your shot stopper is the heartbeat of all on-field matters, commanding and controlling his defence and sending messages throughout the team.
A good keeper tends to lead to a solid, stable team and no one understands this better than Kings Langley’s own Cian Moore.
Signing on loan from Chesham United after spending years providing cover at the local club, he felt the summer was the right time for a move.
At the forefront of his motivations for a new challenge, he expresses his desire to be the main man and act as the number 1 between the sticks.
“It was absolutely the right move. Getting regular minutes is so important for a goalkeeper, so finding a club at a good level where I can play consistently was very important for me this season.”
His decision has been rewarded and coach Jordan Parkes has shown faith in Moore, who has slotted into the Kings side instantly.
He added “I’m very happy to be playing week in week out and building some momentum with the team.”
A particular highlight for Moore is the recent penalty shootout win over Tring, where he saved twice from the spot to help his side progress.
An example of his growing stature at the club, Moore describes such scenarios as “some of the best moments in football” and gives credit to his seamless transition into the team for his match-winning performances.
“In my first sessions with the club, the management and players made for a welcoming environment to become a part of with a clear set of goals for the season.”
Despite signing just days before the start of the season’s FA Cup fixtures, he still feels as though he settled “very quickly” and believes that was down to “the attitude around the club, the goals the team has and the support from the fans becoming quickly apparent and making it very easy to become a part of Kings Langley.”
Moore briefly returned to Chesham last month after injuries to their other keepers meant he got a rare start. Kings replaced him temporarily with ex- Premier League keeper Graham Stack, but Moore is now back in WD4 and determined to turn things around after a shaky November
for the club.
“With such a new and young team, it’s easy to underestimate the solid start
to the season, we just need to get
back to that sort of form.”
As for what the fans can hope for as the campaign progresses, Moore is optimistic about what’s ahead for the side, stating “with the potential to put ourselves in a strong position, up there with the top teams in the league, we will all be hoping to build the momentum and be in and around the playoffs come the end.”
An exciting prospect and coming from the man with the clearest overview of footballing matters you’d be a brave soul to bet against him.
