James Towell joined Kings Langley at the start of the season, adding yet another Step Four side to his impressive portfolio. Having made an impact with every club he’s competed for, James will hope to continue his success and help his new Kings side as they look to embark on a progressive season in the Southern League Central.
Moving to WD4 after a year at league rivals Thame United, Towell cites the coaching setup and his geographical connections with the club as major reasons for the switch.
“It’s a great club with really good potential; I’ve also heard lots of good things about Jordan (Parkes) and the management team and being a local lad made the decision easy, really.”
Since signing for Berkhamsted back in 2012, Towell went on to represent a further three sides before heading to Kings.
He spent eight years and made over 200 appearances at Leighton, who he joined in 2015 and eventually left for Bedford Town in 2023. After one year at The Eyrie with The Eagles, he moved to Thame United for a brief spell and now finds himself at The Orbital Fasteners Stadium.
Such vast experience is undoubtedly a bonus for Parkes, who is nurturing a youthful defensive lineup through the early stages of their careers and Towell knows that his role goes further than with the ball at his feet.
“We have a very young squad so adding some experience is vital for the balance of the team. Especially with the back four, if we can stay solid and organised at the back it gives us a great platform to work from.”
Over his long career at this level, Towell has experienced success first hand, notably winning the double with Leighton in 2022/23. So, how far does he feel his current side are from picking up similar accolades?
“Not far off at all. It’s a great setup we have here and we seem to be building a really strong squad which should compete at the top of the league.”
James made his debut against North Leigh at the start of the season and has made five total appearances to date. He bagged his first goal in the win at Biggleswade FC and he’s looking forward to pushing on from his promising start to his first campaign with the team and bedding himself into the fanbase.
“I’m really looking forward to playing in front of the home fans and meeting them all and I hope we have a really exciting season!”
