Kings Langley will travel to Flackwell Heath on Saturday in the hope of securing a third consecutive victory for the first time this campaign.
It’s already been a vitally important few days for the side, overcoming North Leigh and Leverstock Green on Saturday and Tuesday respectively, to ease themselves up the standings and return to form after a tough stretch where points were hard to come by.
Now, they can head to Buckinghamshire feeling a lot more comfortable, having moved 10 points clear of the drop and pushed themselves back into the battle for the top half of the table.
A heavily congested Pitching In Southern League Division One Central means that Kings, who sit in 13th, are just three points from Biggleswade in 8th, and only 6 behind Welwyn Garden City in 7th. As such, Jordan Parkes will know the importance of a good month’s work and if his side can continue their current hot streak and add a few more wins in the upcoming weeks they may even harbour hopes of a playoff spot come the backend of April.
The back-to-back victories at The Orbital Fasteners Stadium in recent days, doubling the team’s tally of home league wins for the season, came with an aggregate score of 7-0 - clear signs that all aspects of the squad are firing.
Defensive solidity spearheaded by centre-halve pairing Ali Gould and Kobe Sinclair-Linton, with a backbone of impressive keeper Adisorn Connolly, has seen them go unbreached for over 180 minutes of football, and when combined with the attacking firepower and ruthlessness on display from Jonathan Lawson, it has proved an unstoppable combination.
Bentley Assiedou has really burst into life in a Kings shirt of late, terrorising and befuddling the North Leigh defence on Saturday, before claiming a game-shaping brace in the derby on Tuesday evening, also providing the assist for Lawson’s headed goal just before half-time.
Henry Burt bagged his first goal for the club against the Green, making true of his comments in an interview with us before the game where he revealed he was hoping to add offensive efficiency to his skillset.
The test now is for Kings to go again, this time against a higher-flying opponent in Flackwell Heath.
The Heathens have taken like ducks to water to life in Division One Central, having been promoted as league-champions last time out, and they find themselves well in the ascendancy to make the playoff places, third in the standings trailing only Real Bedford and Berkhamsted.
They’ve not lost since November and have picked up four of the six points on offer to them so far in 2025. Conceding only 23 goals, the second-best record across the league, their steady base is held together by skipper Callum Mapley and defensive partner Harrison Mepham, and Kings will have to work hard to break through them on Saturday.
Going forward, Wiktor Makowski has led their line in superb fashion, notching 17 goals for the campaign at present, and he’s been ably supported by Michael Harding, who has seven.
All the statistics, plus the fact that Flackwell will still be buzzing from a last-gasp victory over Enfield on Saturday, suggest the trip to Wilks Park may be a daunting one. However, Kings are rolling with some upward momentum of their own and will be confident of taking the fight to their hosts and securing a win that would really act as a statement of their intent to the rest of the league.
While comfortable home wins over North Leigh and Leverstock Green, the league’s two bottom sides, were much welcomed and hugely important, if Kings can go on and force a result against a promotion-contending team away from home, that would truly prove they have ambitions of a storming second half to the season.
They’ve already shown they can tussle with the top teams, overcoming league-leaders Real Bedford, and have come close to other big scalps on multiple occasions, lacking just the clinical edge needed to convert performances into points. Now, they’ll hope to produce another display deserving of a result, and round off what is shaping up to be a joyous January.
The entertaining 3-3 draw between the sides at The Orbital Fasteners Stadium earlier this season will give Kings further food for optimistic thought; evidence they have what it takes to match the Heathens stride-for-stride.
