Match Preview: Kings Langley v Beaconsfield Town/Biggleswade

Huge week ahead for Kings Langley.

Kings Langley face back-to-back home games this week, in what could prove to be a season-defining stretch. First it’s the visit of Beaconsfield Town on Saturday, before they host Biggleswade FC next Tuesday evening.

It represents a huge chance for Steve Heath to pick up his first win since arriving back in the dugout and with his side now just seven points off the drop, it would be very much welcomed, especially with 20th-placed Leverstock Green keen to close the gap with a pair of their own favourable fixtures this week.

Kings are off the back of a couple of comprehensive defeats; 3-0 and 4-1 losers at the hands of the Green and Hertford Town respectively. They did, however, break the goal drought last time out thanks to Bradley Smith’s second-half consolation.

Perhaps that will make up an emblem of light for Heath, something to build on as they head into Saturday’s affair against Beaconsfield. The Rams are in 10th, but faced a battering on the road at Real Bedford last weekend. They fell to a 7-1 defeat that contrasts their recent run of form - a solid stretch including victory away at title-chasing Berkhamsted.

A relatively young squad is spearheaded by experienced skipper Matthew Harriot. Jo Lawal is their top scorer with 12 and 19-year-old Joshua Marcon has also hit double digits. The reverse fixture ended 2-1 to Beaconsfield at Windsor Road back in December, with a Brad Smith beauty being overpowered by goals from Cheyce Grant and Lawal.

The meeting with Sam Togwell’s men is quickly followed by one with Dave Northfield’s Biggleswade, as they travel to The Orbital Fasteners Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Biggleswade sit one place above Beaconsfield, in ninth, but they ended a winless streak spanning over a month with a 2-1 victory over Hadley on Saturday.

It was a particularly impressive win given Hadley’s playoff ambitions and the absence of talisman Daniel Bond. He has 11 for the term, but it was Adam Hunt who stepped up on Saturday; the right back picking up a goal and an assist on his way to the Man of the Match award.

Kings can take comfort from October’s meeting between the sides, which they won 3-1, and will hope that a repeat of that feat could complete a week of seismic importance for them. Should they pull off a pair of positive results, they’d go some way to easing any relegation fears and that would allow them to enjoy the last few games of the campaign and commence the preparations for Heath’s first full summer back at the club.

The Kings gaffer knows the part the fans can play, recently calling for their support in his programme notes, and his side will be desperate for their backing again this week. New faces in the form of Josh Bowler, Nana Kyei and Kwai Marsh-Brown, among others, will have had some extra time in training to bed in with the squad and will hope to have a greater impact in the upcoming affairs.

Kick-off for Saturday’s clash with Beaconsfield is at 3pm, while Tuesday night’s matchup begins at 7.45. Tickets for both games at The Orbital Fasteners Stadium are available on the door so make sure you get down and help push the boys over the line as they bid to get a couple of crucial wins on the board.
