Match Preview: Kings Langley v Northwood

Dean Wigzell18 Sep - 08:51

Callum Humphrey looks ahead to Saturday's local derby.

Kings Langley will look to make it back-to-back league wins for the first time this season as they welcome neighbours Northwood to The Orbital Fasteners Stadium.

The weekend saw a comfortable victory for Jordan Parkes’ side, who moved up to 11th spot in the table, as they kept a clean sheet and scored twice to claim three valuable points on the road in North Leigh.

Forward pairing Lance Williams and Qasim Khan were in fine form, both getting their names on the scoresheet, in what is sure to be a welcome sight for Kings’ fans. Khan’s second goal in seven games marks an impressive start to the season, while Williams will look to kick on his campaign as he also found the net for the second time.

Parkes will also be pleased with the work of his backline, much changed after the loss of Matt Hall to injury, who kept a clean sheet and controlled the game to ensure a relatively straightforward afternoon unfolded in Oxfordshire.

Kings will be desperate to make the most of an opportunity to gain some momentum as the season enters its full flow, with visitors Northwood the only side yet to register a point in the league thus far.

Since their move from the Isthmian League back to the Southern League for the first time since 2018, the Woods have struggled to adapt to their new surroundings scoring only two goals in five games as their attack has yet to fire.

Conceding an average of over two goals per game and sitting rock bottom of the table, they seem to make for vulnerable opposition as Kings look to continue their ascent up the standings. The sides’ most recent meeting was last year, as Kings ran out 3-1 friendly victors.

They haven’t been in league action since late last month, as a poor start was compounded by an FA Trophy defeat in their most recent outing at Herne Bay.

Player-coach Parkes has spoken of his “quiet satisfaction” in the way his team are improving and is excited for the chance to “continue building on the good work they are putting in”.

However, he will be well aware that Northwood won’t go down without a fight, with no easy games in this division, and will be readying his team for another tough challenge.

Derby games tend to bring out the very best of both teams and this one is unlikely to be any different.

Kick off is at 3pm on Saturday afternoon at The Orbital Fasteners Arena for any fans keen to head down and experience the battle first-hand. Tickets are available for £10 per adult, £7 for concessions and just £2 for U18s.
