All to play for ahead of Kings’ last league game of the season!

Kings Langley make the short trip to Northwood on Easter Monday for their last game of the season with plenty still set to be decided at the bottom of the Southern Football League Division One Central League table.

A hard-earned point against Berkhamsted on Good Friday edged them five points clear of Leverstock Green in 19th, the last relegation spot, but the Green dealt their local rivals a blow when they defeated Hertford Town later that evening, shortening the gap to just two points.

Kings’ trip to Northwood is their final encounter of the campaign, with their bye-week falling on the last day of the season, while Leverstock are still to play Stotfold on Monday and AFC Dunstable the following week.

Should Kings better the Green’s result on Monday, they will almost certainly be safe. A win for Kings coupled with a draw or defeat for Levy would mathematically seal the deal, while a Kings draw and a Levy defeat would leave Levy three points behind Kings with one game to play, requiring a win by at least nine goals on the final day to usurp them.

However, should Kings lose at Northwood and the Green beat Stotfold, Kings will be relegated instead. It really is all to play for.

Standing in the way of Kings’ shot at safety are The Woods, who narrowly avoided the drop themselves. They looked dead and buried - winless until October - but a remarkable turn in fortunes has seen them cement their place at step four after promotion last time out.

Jack Smith and Jon Jo Bates stepped up from their playing positions to lead the team in late March and that catalysed an almighty peak in form, winning four on the bounce and five of their last six. It was victory at North Leigh on Saturday that confirmed their safety, a 4-1 win continuing a fine stretch in front of goal that’s seen them score 16 times in their last four outings.

Troy Perez-Duah and Samuel Folarin appear a dangerous pair up top, 24 goals between them, and both netted on the trip to Oxfordshire at the weekend.

While The Woods are perhaps the in-form team across the whole division at this moment, Kings will be confident of forging a result after they competed blow-for-blow with second-placed Berkhamsted on Friday. They absorbed a barrage of pressure and it was only Bernard Christie’s 90th-minute equaliser that denied them from picking up a first win of the Steve Heath era (the second one!).

Heath himself was absent, assistant Joe Sweeney instead taking charge, but his team put up a solid display with striker Edu Toiny-Pendred finally rewarded for his hard work with a pair of first half goals.

They’ll need to show similar spirit and togetherness on Monday as they go to battle for one last time in the 2024/25 campaign. A large crowd is expected for derby day at The Skyline Roofing Stadium and Kings would be grateful for your support. For those willing to make the short journey and support the boys, kick-off is at 3pm with tickets available on the door.
